Police anti-drug campaign gets under way
Dubai: Dubai Police’s war on drugs has taken a major step forward as a campaign targeting youngsters gets under way. Police said the problem is so bad children as young as 12 are abusing drugs.
“Some types of drugs are becoming popular among students and this campaign aims to raise their awareness against abusing drugs,” said Colonel Dr Jasem Mirza, Director of the Security Awareness Department at Dubai Police.
Dr Khalifa Al Shamsi from Dubai Police’s security educational department said the police will use posters, flyers and advertisements in the media to highlight the problem. They will also organize special exhibitions to educate the public about how addicts get hooked on drugs
“Drug use has become a scary fact that threatens societies all over the world and must be confronted on all levels.
“Police are helping the addict and their families. Drug abusers end up with mental difficulties or as thieves, criminals and murderers,” he warned.
The campaign against drugs was launched by Dubai Police at a press conference on 23/9/2013 at Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department in cooperation with various schools and both the American and British Consulate.
He said the use of crystal meth and tramadol among students is on the rise.
“We urge school and universities to report to police any cases of students who are taking drugs,” said Dr Al Shamsi.
He said tramadol is a painkiller and available on prescription.
“Some parents may use such medicine and children know that this is a controlled medicine and that it is harmful,” he said.

According to anti - NARCOTICS AND PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES law it’s totally prohibited :- The introduction , import , export , manufacture , extraction , separation , production , obtainment , acquisition and use narcotics and psychotropic .
The punishment is very harsh in all these crimes, according to Article 39 – of narcotic law that stipulated that:
Whoever abuses in any manner or personally uses in circumstances other than those authorized any narcotic or psychotropic substances shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of four years at least.
The court may, in addition to the said penalty, impose a fine amounting to ten thousand Dirham’s at least.
The deportation is compulsory in such crimes as Article 63 – that stipulates:-
In addition to the sanctions set forth herein, the foreigner convicted in any of the crimes set forth herein shall be deported by virtue of a court order.
For those visitors we warn them from violating this law, and advise them no to enter the United Arab Emirates while possessing and drugs.
